MANILA — President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. will spend this year’s Holy Week in his home province of Ilocos Norte, Malacañang said Tuesday, shortly before the Malacañang ordered half-day work-from-home scheme on April 1.

“I will spend a few days in Ilocos Norte, and I will be back in Manila by the weekend,” the President told reporters in a chance interview in Nueva Ecija.

Despite being with family, the President is expected to continue working while in the province, Communications Undersecretary Claire Castro said in a Palace briefing.

“Sa Pangulo po hindi po uso ang salitang pagbabakasyon,” she said.

“Walang pagbabakasyon dahil patuloy ang ating Pangulo sa pagmomonitor at pagbibigay ng directive sa mga ahensya sa gobyerno,” she said.

Malacañang earlier ordered a half-day work-from-home scheme on April 1, shortening government work to 12 noon to allow public sector employees time to travel to their home provinces for Holy Week.

However, several government agencies have projected fewer travelers this year, citing rising fuel costs that are expected to limit the travel budgets of many Filipinos.
