Devotees and Catholic faithful offer prayers as they enter the Antipolo Cathedral in Antipolo City on Maundy Thursday, April 2, 2026. Thousands of devotees visit the cathedral yearly, many taking long walks as an act of penance and prayer in observance of Holy Week. Jonathan Cellona, ABS-CBN News/FileMANILA — President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. called on all Filipinos to “live with greater faith, humility and compassion” as the Catholic faithful reflected on the passion and death of Jesus Christ on Good Friday.
“Today, we stand before the Cross. In silence, in reflection, in gratitude,” the President’s message read.
“For in it, we see a love that did not turn away from suffering, but chose to embrace it for each one of us,” he said.
“May this day call us to live with greater faith, humility and compassion. A solemn Good Friday to all.”
Marcos — who is a Roman Catholic — is spending this year’s Holy Week in his home province Ilocos Norte, according to earlier information from Malacañang.
The Palace earlier said that the Chief Executive would continue to monitor the country’s energy situation while in Ilocos as the Philippines continues to reel from oil price shocks linked to month-long war between US-Israeli and Iranian forces in the Middle East.
