Metro Manila cools to 19.2°C, its lowest yet this Amihan season

MANILA  — Metro Manila woke up early Thursday to its lowest temperature yet this 2025-2026 northeast monsoon (Amihan) season, state weather bureau PAGASA said.

The weather station in Science Garden, Quezon City observed a chilly 19.2°C at 6:17 a.m., breaking the previous season record of 19.6°C on January 22.

Nippy conditions were also felt across several parts of Luzon. Baguio City cooled to 12.4°C while its neighboring La Trinidad, Benguet logged 13.2°C.

Other areas that recorded temperatures below 20°C included the following. 

• 18.0°C        Basco, Batanes
• 18.2°C        Tanay, Rizal
• 18.6°C        Malaybalay City, Bukidnon
• 19.2°C        Sinait, Ilocos Sur
• 19.3°C        Laoag City, Ilocos Norte

Aside from cool weather, Amihan continues to bring light to occasionally moderate rains over eastern Cordillera, Cagayan Valley, and Aurora.

An Amihan surge currently prevailing over Luzon and Visayas may weaken by Sunday, with another surge expected next week.

The northeast monsoon peaks during the first two months of the year, with temperatures in the mountainous regions of Luzon potentially staying chilly at 10°C in February and 10.7°C in March, according to the weather bureau.

Amihan typically ends in the third or fourth week of March.
